Off-Season Surgery

I am scheduled for off-season surgery tomorrow. I will be in the hospital for 10 days and out of action for a few weeks. I have already faced cancer with my father and my mother. Baseball was there for me both times. I wrote about that over at Bronx Banter.

    Heard Todd is in ICU but is stable and resting. Sounds like he will out of it for several days. It might be a while but can't wait for him to start writing again.

    Thank you for all of the kind words - Todd will be very touched when he is able to read all of the posts and emails. Todd will be in ICU for a few more days and has a long road ahead of him but he is going to be ready for the opening of the new Yankee Stadium and will be back to writing as soon as possible. -Marsha

    We're all so sad to learn of your passing. I've always loved that your passion for ciivl liberties is matched by an equally strong passion for civil liberties....The Yankees may not love that, but the folks down the hall do!!!
    The broken Yankee window in your office is a wonderful reminder of a gentle, lovable, fanatical fan ... of both.

    Todd - I didn't know you other than your words. You didn't know me at all. Yet I can say, as I sit here on my couch with tears welling up... that I'm a little worse off knowing that you aren't here anymore.

    Your words were straight, and forward, and rang true with both memory and imagination.

    You are missed now, by others that knew you better, and by those amongst this medium who only know you through the words that you gave us.

    That is more than enough.

    Your spirit was felt through words and fonts found hundreds of times over on this silly thing, the internet. Your voice echoed through and through; warm, unique genuine. I think everyone will agree with me when I say that voice is one we'll miss, but are grateful to have heard.

    It'll be easier to sneak into the new stadium as an angel ($1000 bucks, yeah right!). Grab one of your mom's famous tuna fish sandwiches and find a spot perched on the frieze. It'll be the best seat in the house.

    Watching the Yanks in the top of the 12th, Game 2 of the 2009 ALCS vs Angels. Game tied 3-3 after A-Rod tied it with dramatic homer in the booton o the 11th. Young David Robertson facing Gary Matthews Jr. with two outs and men on first and second. And the kid fans him! Todd would have loved it!
