Steady

Javier pulled his hat low against the rain as he walked along Walton Avenue.

“It’s gonna be a lousy day,” someone said.

“It’s not so bad,” Javier smiled. “There are less than five months until Opening Day.”

“But who’s gonna start?” someone asked. “Pettitte might not be back.”

“You never know what’s gonna happen in baseball,” Javier shrugged. “I think Pettitte will be back, but we’ll be ready to play either way.

“That’s the only thing that really matters,” he continued. “Give me a team of tough, talented ballplayers and I can make it through just about anything.”

Even a rainy morning in the Bronx.

So like I no longer live in the shadow of Yankee Stadium. It's been a long time since I lived in the Bronx but now I live near the summer home at Legends Field and won't be all that long before there is action there. Am a hop skip and a jump from Orlando where the suits are meeting but it might as well be on the other side of the planet. Disney World can be like that a whole world unto its own. And I am not at all interested in going there. The rest of the world has become a rather strange amusement park all by itself. I read some other blogs man and these folks take everything so seriously. And I wonder if they ever played the game. Its all numbers to these boys and winning and not how they play the game or sportsmanship. Jeez sportsmanship seems so lost today.

You are correct. There are a lot of people that don’t get it. I hang out in the Bronx where most people do get it.
